Keychron K5 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard

I needed a keyboard, and I had a pretty hard time deciding which keyboard would be the best fit for me.

I’ve never really been a fan of mechanical keyboards because the click, click, click, gets very annoying while you’re typing, and I also didn’t want something that felt plastic and flimsy. I wanted the keyboard to have a numpad and a backlight, so the keys were easier to see but I also didn’t want it to look like a unicorn vomited on my desk.

I settled on the Keychron K5 wireless mechanical keyboard with brown switches. I liked that it was Bluetooth and wired and was also compatible with Windows/Android as well as MacOS/iOS. I also don’t really use the little feet that come with keyboards so the low-profile design of the K5 works great for me.

The K5 has an aluminium case which makes it feel durable and has quite a weight to it (I feel like I could use it as a weapon if I was ever attacked and I only had a keyboard to protect me), the floating keycap design has a great feel to them and gives the keyboard quite a fancy look to it. The keycaps are made of ABS plastic, and they have a double-shot injection moulding process which means that the legends on the keycaps (this is the letters or symbols that are printed or etched onto the key) will not wear off over time. The K5 also has RGB backlighting, which can be customized through the Keychron software that is on the keyboard itself.

The Keychron K5 has a 2000 mAh battery which means you can get about 190 hours of Bluetooth use. I never really used the Bluetooth option though as I did not like the latency delay. I hate typing and having to wait for the text to appear on the screen.

Typing on the K5 feels comfortable and I do feel that there is no strain on my wrist, the low-profile Gateron switches gives you a smooth and solid typing experience. The keyboard is also reasonably quiet, so it is a good choice for both work and gaming. This was probably the biggest selling point for me as I wouldn’t be able to work with the constant clicking noise all day.

Overall, I’m very impressed with the quality and build of the Keychron K5. It’s well built and is comfortable to use.
