Load Shedding

Eskom Load shedding Stage-3 is back

Sad news for South Africans, Stage 3 is back. (This may change after the time of writing this blog)

What you need to know and how to overcome it. First off Eskom Se Push app can be found on your phones app store weather it is Google or iOS. This application is up to date with local outages including water. To keep up to date and work around those times especially if you like us who life on the 6th floor walking up the stairs is a bit annoying at least itā€™s good for your health.

Going Gas for cooking should you be able to do this go for it can be cheaper than electricity to be honest and cooksā€™ food faster but do find out by your local store where you would get Gas from about the safety on this. Sadly, we do not sell Gas stoves etc.

Power stations VS inverters this is where we come in. It entirely depends on you the customer and your usage. We are using a power station as this works for us at the time.
Power stations are great as they are portable and lightweight compared to trolley inverters. However powering up a Computer might be better with a trolley inverter since those are UPS’s while Power stations are EPS (UPS is uninterrupted power supply with a delay of 1-6 millisecond depending on the make and model) while EPS is emergency power supply which have if a UPS function a delay of 12-16milliseconds (depending on make and model).

What does this mean well a television doesn’t require power in a sensitive way so a 16 millisecond delay isnā€™t so bad for it to switch off and on again as opposed to a computer where a small drop can switch the entire PC off and you lost work but that too is dependent on your capacitors on your power supply (Gold and Platinum’s are really good at staying on).

So, with that said trolley inverters are best for computers and everything else while power stations are great for appliances in general. You can use a Ecoflow Delta 2 for a Gaming PC but just know from our experience is that if you gaming and using something like 600watts thatā€™s fine the PC never tripped but above 650w it tripped when power cut out (nothing to do with the size of your power supply was more on the amount of power your PC was drawing).

Now we do have an unfinished calculator mainly because load shedding ended so we abandoned the project we were going to implement it on the site so currently itā€™s in Excel only.

See link for downloading here. Please note its unfinished and the calculations are 90% accurate with a pinch of salt.

A watt meter from Takealot will show how many watts a specific appliance uses (without discharging being calculated) We recommend the Red Pole but we see its delisted either way this type of product (Link here) Sadly we don’t sell these meters (yet..)

Which Power station should you buy?
One that works for you there is a wide range available with different functions and features. but specifically can recommend ones with LifePO4 batteries as they have higher cycles and this is important the higher the cycles the longer it will last with you. Most of these products on their product pages have a Additional information tab click on it and you will see the basic specs about them such as Type of battery and DOB etc.

If im going for Trolley inverter which ones should i get?
Personally try and avoid ones with Gel batteries as they have a six month warranty on them and they will eventually die on you sooner than that of LifePO4 batteries this is also cause Gel batteries cycles are 250 compared to LifePo4 of 2000 upwards. We will sell it to you but know that they only 6 months luckly most can be upgraded to a Lithium battery like a LifePo4 with SENRY V-LFP12-100 12.8V 100Ah Lithium Iron Phospate (LifePO4) battery ā€“ 1280Wh now this is just an example for inverters that require 12v where 24v require either 2 of these batteries or a 24v battery feel free to contact us to make 100% sure before purchasing.

Can Tech Guy SA upgrade my current trolley inverter to Lithium yes we can we have the tools to do it Feel free to contact us for a quotation.

With this being said should anyone have questions feel free to contact us and we will be eager to help.
