Tech Guy SA – Moving Servers

We are planing on moving servers sometime in June.

Mainly due to traffic and server performance. There has been a good amount of days in May where the site performed horribly and we had to do some heavy modifications to keep it from crashing due to increase of users on the site as well as site crawlers which we have filtered out the aggressive ones.
This being said what triggered this was a attack on the site which didn’t get through but we noticed the server just was struggling in general.

We are moving to a server with the same Host just more resources and faster hardware, specifically so that our Caching can sit nicely for users without any or too much compromise.
This is also the reason for the close to every night we ran maintenance mode to do some tweeks and run some performance reports.

We could lower the plugins on the site but each is being utilised for everything in general with 20 000 +/- products published and another 20 000 products still updating for front end this is pushing the old server to its knees.
We have also at the end of May ran out End of Life filter which takes all the products listed and checks if they still active with our suppliers we have deleted serveral thousands that were end of life and filtering more to the End of Life category (they hide in the store till we delete them eventually).

These task take several hours unfortunately. but its final step will be done in this week with minimal impact.
Other Tweeks has been implemented

As for the server move we have not yet decided which date to do this on but may do this either Thursday 5th or Monday 10th in case we need support should something happen and this will be done after hours. We may leave it till month end depending on the readiness. We have tested the server what happens when we do give it more resources and we believe the move is in the right direction even if its costing us more as long as the site speeds up for more traffic as it grows.

No Data will be lost. This would be the 3rd time we moving in 5 years sadly our site is rather large hence the moves.

2020-2021 site was moved from one host to another that had faster speeds
2022 Moved away from wordpress hosting to VPS as the storage was growing large
2023 Didnt move only upgraded the server due to mass traffic and demands
2025 Will be moving within the host to a newer server (higher spec newer hardware)
